When browsing in Firefox, I am being re-directed to Yahoo Direct Search page even though I did not request it. This is a major problem and you will lose users if this is not fixed. Is thete any way to prevent this?

Did you install a Yahoo branded version of Firefox 4.0?
You got the Yahoo! activeX Plug-in Bridge from somewhere. It is not supplied with official versions of Firefox.
Either that or you installed something from Yahoo that changed a pref in Firefox and is re-directing to the Yahoo Direct Search page.

Go into add-ons and disable all Yahoo! plug-ins and extensions. I had the same problem and this seemed to fix it.

How do I access the Yahoo add ons?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
