As a Hotmail email that is being composed gets longer and longer, the text suddenly disappears (behind what acts like a pop-up that is blocking the lower 1/3 of my compose window). Experimenting on 3 July I discovered that "Reloading" the compose screen overcame this problem. Also selecting "Full Screen". (IE does NOT have this problem.) By "Compose" I mean composing a new message, replying or forwarding an existing message (with my comments being added before). The full message (that was saved as DRAFT or previously sent) can be seen, but just going into a "compose" mode causes the bottom of the message to "disappear". The right-hand scroll bar also disappears behind the - you can see whereas

I expect is is the quick viewing window. I would not have it turned on ever. Gear(tools) > Options > more Options> Reading Pane options >

  • turn off reading pane
  • show a message only after I select it

better check out the active reading under those as well if I don't know what it is I probably don't want it -- but that's not really safe to assume either.

If you want to view a message without it activating anything bad, right lick on the message or envelope and choose "View message source" don't open the message in any other manner if that looks suspicious

Sorry "dmcritchie", I do not understand your solution, especially " Gear(tools) > Options > more Options> Reading Pane options >" since this does not match the Tools > Options under the Firefox window. (Tools > Options shows a "Gear" symbol labeled "Advanced"; I'm running XP on a Dell Inspiron).

I don't ever remember configuring a "Quick Viewing" window (I prefer to open each message manually or delete it unopened), or configuring Read Panes - unless if was a default setting in Firefox 5. (Come to think of it, Firefox 5 became available early last month and that's about when I started noticing this issue. Luckily I don't recall it happening with Yahoo email accounts which I use more frequently, or even gmail ones.)

Thanks for the tip: "..to view a message without it activating anything bad, right click on the message or envelope and choose "View message source" .." - This right-click option is new to me - and I can see not only the sender but also the content. (Is it totally safe, since one can see the content without physically opening it?)
