Why is Firefox randomly 'connecting...' after being on any webpage for an amount of time?

I'm not entirely sure when this first started, although it is recently...

When I am on any loaded webpage on Firefox, the tab will turn to "Connecting..." after set intervals. Is this Firefox's doing, as I am fairly certain there are no refresh commands embedded in most sites.

I have tested for malware and spyware, using both Malwarebytes and Spybot and came back clean both times.

Hello,
Please update to version 24.0 to see if the issue is fixed. If not try the following:
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I tried resetting to defaults and reinstalled my AdBlocker Plus, NoScript and Web Developer Toolbar, and I'm still having the same issues. It's not occurring on any of my other browsers so I'm assuming an update to Firefox must have changed some setting.

It doesn't appear to be a browser hijack, but still it's a little annoying. Thanks for the reply.

Have you tried in a new profile, without those addons, not trying to tell you to live with it, but such problems could be caused by Adblock, Ghostery, about:trackers, NoScript etc.
