If I reset Firefox to help get rid of some unwanted adware, will I be able to restore my last session with Session Manager?

I'm getting adware and malware such as telling me my Firefox is out of date. I'd like to rid myself of these by resetting Firefox, but I'm wondering if I will lose my session. I have Session Manager, but I'm skeptical that I will still have Session Manager and my saved sessions after I reset Firefox.

No, only a limited number of things are copied from your old Firefox profile to your new one during a reset. Firefox should copy over your last session (History > Restore Previous Session should work), but nothing before that.

As one other thing to try first, disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the add-ons page and click the link as the last step.

Any improvement?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
