zoom levels and too fuzzy/too sharp things
This is about the zoom levels. I was running 19 for a long time because it did things in an intuitive, non-stupid way. Unfortunately it was just getting too buggy to keep using. I updated to current version 27.0.1 and have been wasting many hours getting it to function like 19. Main problem I have is with zoom levels and how things look. The buttons (refresh, home, forward, back, any buttons for add-ons) in FF are soft, no sharp edges. They look like they were upscaled too far from a low-res version, or zoomed in on. Also, I always have multiple program windows open meaning FF is set to occupy less than the full screen, but it can't remember that I want a certain zoom level on everything/that it should fit the pages it's opening to the window size I've chosen. Fonts in web pages look either too crisp or too soft unless I fiddle with the zoom levels but then web pages don't fit properly anymore-- and it either won't recall that zoom level or recalls the wrong zoom level, as if I'd never touched it. The text in the FF drop-down menu headers (File, Edit, View, etc.) have a weird white halo around them, but the drop-down menus themselves look just fine as does the text in tabs, in the search bar and URL bar, the word search bar, and right-click menu. Nothing on these forums either makes sense to a non-programmer/layperson or is helpful. I already tried every troubleshooting step that I can understand, including safe mode, resetting, etc. If I have to literally start reprogramming this thing then I really can't waste any more time. Thanks to any who will not lecture me/try to make me feel dumb...

hello, please make sure that you have set windows to display at 100% in the windows control panel > appearance > display. more information about that is available at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/make-the-text-on-your-screen-larger-or-smaller
I've changed not one thing other than updating FF and suddenly FF is having a problem. The view is set to 125% which is just fine for my monitor size and viewing distance. FF 19 did not have these issues with that view level, been using it like that with 19 since last summer when I upgraded to Win 7. It knew to fit the web pages to whatever window size I had open. And everything was crisp and looked fine, no halo around menu text or super sharp edges on fonts or fuzzy/soft buttons. The only thing that has changed is FF. FF is the problem. How do I fix it? (I of course tried what you said, but it made everything far too tiny and resized every single thing I had previously worked hard to get set "just so". And still didn't fix the issue. It is not logical that somehow my system is to blame since only FF is having the problem and FF was the only change made to my system, but then again, that's tech support for you. Always the user's fault.)
firefox 22 and above is now respecting the pixel density you've set on a system level in the windows control panel > appearance > display and will zoom in accordingly.
if you want to set the text size/pixel density in firefox different from that of your system's settings like it was handled in prior versions, enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. double-click it and change its value to 1.0 (or any other zoom factor that fits your purpose: 1.0 relates to 100%, 0.8 equals 80% and so on; -1.0 is the default value and will adhere to the system settings).
