All my emails have disappeared, seems like TB has been reset? What happened?

My inbox had several subfolders... they all disappeared, I seem to have a new, naked version of Thunderbird... no idea how this could happen. Is there a method to recover my emails, they must be somewhere on the harddisk... Thanks for your help.

We're having a run on this question. I answered a similar one a few minutes ago, and I see it's been handled on this forum previously today.
