cant sign in with previous details
I last came here for support in 2017. I just tried to sign in but my details were not accepted. So I have registered with a new email and password. As yet I have not been asked to provide a username? Is there a reason for this.

I just re-read your original post and said out loud " Wait a minute !"
It is your username you want to change, and only an administrator can do that ....
You can change your display name though .....
But if you're dead-set on having your username changed (and not just your display name, which is the name everyone can see) : let us know and we can forward this to an administrator.

Hello McCoy Thanks for the links - a lot to read there. In the mean time I have tried to add a bit of info to my profile. When I click update there is a small box at the top of the page with 'please enter URL' What URL? I have also entered my old username.

Hello McCoy I have just signed in and lo and behold there is my old user name in all the posts. That is what I call customer support. I did think it may not be accepted as I had used it before? Many thanks for your help and that of Fred's. I will now post a question regarding the reason I came to support.

Uh-oh ..... So you do want your username changed ? You changed your display name (= the name that we all see here), and I thought you were happy with that, so I haven't contacted an administrator about changing your username ....
Just to make sure : Do you want your username changed ? If so, please let me know and I will try and contact an administrator.
But what we see here on the support site is "Damascus".....
Hello McCoy Oh - I seem to have confused username/display name. I went into my profile and filled it in. When I came out and went to my thread it was still showing part of my email address. I went back to my profile to find it empty and have not tried again. My old username was Damascus so I am very content to leave it as my display name. Thank you for questioning my intent. You can post a "Want to change my user name / e-mail address" request on the SUMO community discussions forum if you want to change the username or email address. Add [Attn: Admin] at the start of the thread title.
