The new bookmark function listed under the organize option of Bookmark Library for Firefox (versions 28 and 29) creates a pop-up that is wider than my monitor. I have to slide the pop-up to the left in order to get to the buttons on the right side.

Soluție aleasă

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

Hi bob46,

The Firefox bookmark function, the bookmark button opens a menu to view bookmarks. However this is version 29 not 28. Can you please show a screenshot of this? How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Looking forward to your reply.

I found that after Firefox v29, a LOT of my settings and
add-ons were changed / reset. Try this; Start Firefox in Safe Mode
While you are in safe mode;
Firefox Options > Advanced > General.
Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Then check ALL of your settings. Browser and add-ons. Then restart.

See if you can move, change its size like a normal window.

I can only move it around on the screen. The window has no buttons to change the size of the window or minimize the window. Enclosed below is a second screenshot that shows the three button that the window has - close at the right top plus add and cancel at the right bottom.

Using the procedures detailed @ "Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems," I found that the problem still occurred if hardware acceleration and/or the installed extensions were disabled. I also verified that I am using the default theme supplied with Firefox installation.

There are three localstore files in my Firefox profile folder. Two of them were created today during my following the troubleshooting procedures mentioned above. These files are named: 1. localstore.rdf 2. localstore-safe.rdf

The third file is named localstore-1.rdf and was created on January 20, 2013. The file's size is listed as 0KB (zero-KB).

After I renaming localstore.rdf and restarting firefox, a new localstore.rdf file was created, which was 1KB in size. When tested for the new bookmark window problem, it did not occur. The renamed localstore.rdf file must have been corrupted in some way.

Thank you for your help in getting this problem identified and corrected!!

Is it safe to delete the renamed localstore.rdf and the localstore-1.rdf files from the profile folder?

You can delete the localstore.rdf and localstore-1.rdf files.
The presence of the latter numbered localstore-1.rdf file indicates that there was a problem with renaming the file at the time it was created (time stamp).

You can leave the localstore-safe.rdf as that file is used when you start Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can also try to delete the compatibility.ini file to make Firefox reset some files (i.e force a rebuild) in the Firefox profile folder.
