Hi. I recently had to reinstall my bootdrive and software. Since then Firefox will not save my passwords. I am using a Mac Pro OS 10.6.8, Firefox is 33.1.1. I thought it was firefox, so I tried Safari and Chrome - same problem. My preferences are set to "Remember passwords for sites". There are no exceptions listed. There are no saved passwords listed either. Under Privacy > History. "Remember history"

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you in advance.

Brian

Some disk cleaners / anti virus are know to remove some browser files. open their settings and remove anything that checks browsers.

Make sure you are not in permanent private browsing.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration. Then check ALL of your settings; Browser and add-ons.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?. Then restart.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history;Use custom settings for history -> Always use Private Browsing mode).

It is possible that there is a problem with the key3.db file and the logins.json (signons.sqlite) file that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox. You can rename the key3.db file (key3.db.old) and logins.json file (logins.json.old) and a possible signons.sqlite file (signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action. You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost. If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed. Otherwise you can rename the files to their previous names (key3.db and logins.json).

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
