Thunderbird 38.3 (in Windows 10) hangs looking for attachment when I try responding to messages received after I had sent a message with an attachment .

I sent a message to several folks with a 3 page text attachment. Several comments returned. When I try to respond (without attaching any file) the response hangs trying to attach a file. The only way I can respond is to create a new unlinked message.

Any idea what is happening? It really is nice to maintain the linkage.
