In Search, columns selected do not stick. How to do this?

When I use the Search feature, I add a column for "Recipients" from the column selection list. However, this set up does not stick the next time I use Search. One of the answers on this forum was to select "Apply columns to" from the column selection list, but this choice is not on the column selection list.
