Hi, unfortunately Trusteer is seemingly often slow to accommodate the latest version of Firefox, which is a pity, because using an old version can in itself compromise your security. Hopefully they will update to a version that is compatible shortly.

Details of new Firefox versions are available well in advance - https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar

Unless your bank insists, you don't of course have to use it, but that's a matter of personal choice.

There is now a working Trusteer version available, let's hope either that update works also on the impending Fx 54, or thy have a update ready for that too SEE NigelE said

Rapport IS now working with Firefox 53... below chat session with IBM: Tomerca: Please note that a new Rapport version, 1804.112, is currently being released and did not reach all users yet. I asked why this info not on IBM 'supported platforms' page. Tomerca: The new version does Support Firefox 53, but due to the fact that it was not yet released to all users, Trusteer's site does not mention that. Try a manual download of this version 1804.112 from the IBM Trusteer site? https://www.trusteer.com/support/rapport-installation-links Make sure you're on the genuine IBM site before download!!

Maybe consider the Firefox 52.1.0 or 45.9.0 ESR release.

You can install a portable (ESR) Firefox version to access websites that do not work with the current Firefox release. The portable version comes with its own profile folder and doesn't interfere with currently installed Firefox versions.

Hello cor_el - those links for the portable versions look useful. However, as it has its own profile area, I assume it would NOT be able to use the original FF53 logins.json file holding the saved site login passwords (as they would NOT be imported into the standalone profile area).

Would I be correct in assuming that the logins.json file from the FF53 user profile could just be copied over to replace the blank/stub logins.json file in the standalone user profile area, and it would then work for the sites that the user wanted to use as before (but with a working Rapport add-in)? I guess many HTTPS banking site users will NOT rely on saved login ID's and passwords anyway (bad practice) and would have 2-factor authentication dongles anyway - I was just thinking about the convenience of having one browser version opening for the user's day-to-day browsing as well, until Rapport fix their add-in.

I guess that also begs the question: if Rapport is stopped and started, will it automatically find, and integrate its add-in with the standalone FF52?

You can always copy files from your current profile folder to the Firefox portable profile folder.

  • FirefoxPortable\Data\profile

I don't know if you could use Sync.

For the passwords you need logins.json and key3.db.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi cor-el, very useful info, thanks. I did not know about the key3.db.

Nigel I will edit the chosen solution to link to your reply. Thanks for the update.

As Firefox is about to upgrade to Fx54 now only days away did you manage to ask about if Trusteer will support that immediately or not. Otherwise you will have a secure Trusteer Firefox combination for at best a few days.

I uninstalled FF54 and installed 53. I downloaded the latest Rapport compatible with FF53 It worked OK but when I opened FF, it did an automatic update to 54 and Rapport is nowhere is sight again. How can I get rid of the update so I can use Rapport with my FF53? I do not prefer IE but it does work with Rapport.

Firefox 53 is no longer* secure or supported do not use it. If you must use an older version of Firefox only use the Fx52ESR that will not update to Fx53 or Fx54 Releases.

If you consider banking needs to be done with Trusteer enabled then use Fx52ESR or use IE but do not use the ordinary old outdated Firefox releases for banking.

Alternatively consider do you really need to use Trusteer and if you did why would your bank say you should use Trusteer with an outdated insecure browser ? Will your bank compensate you for any loss of Identity, information, money etc related to using an outdated Firefox browser - NO - unless you know better and maybe would like to reassure others by linking to any information where your bank says you must use an outdated Firefox.

* Updates and Security

Firefox updates almost always plug security problems. Once those updates are out the bad guys can see the fixes and work out what the holes are and so will take advantage of those and target those users that do not update,

You should keep other software up to date including your Operating System - Windows etc, and any browser and additobal software such as FlashPlayer
