Why is my thunderbird mail asking me to set up a new mail account before I can get my messages, when I already have an account
I am running windows 10 on my laptop. I normally click on the mozilla thunderbird shortcut on my desktop which takes me straight to my messages and downloads any new ones, but today a message comes up asking me to create a new mail account to be able to access my messages WHY

Check the information in this article from MozillaZine posted by Airmail: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared
A number of people, myself included, had the problem because of CCleaner. The program "cleaned" the "prefs.js" file in the Thunderbird profile by deleting all the links to the email accounts. You may want to check out the Article section on "Corrupt or empty prefs.js" file to see if that is the problem. If it is, the instructions tell how to fix the problem.
Both CCleaner and Thunderbird have subsequently released new updates that hopefully will prevent the problem from reoccurring. You can also go to the Options|Exclude section of CCleaner and add the prefs.js file to the list to be excluded from cleaning by CCleaner.
ALso entirely exclude Thunderbird and Firefox
Thank you but I don't use CCCleaner.
Thunderbird has a bad habit of losing the profile on it's own from time to time. Read the article in the link and follow the instructions. It does not matter how you lost the profile, you just did. That is how to recover it.
