I had to change my gmail password and now thunderbird says it can't access gmail and to change the password which I have done but it still comes up and asks me to change my password each time it tries to access it. Can anyone help?

Soluție aleasă

When Thunderbird can not access an account and gets a generic failure message from the server it assumes a password problem. so being asked to re enter your password i these days rarely the cause of the failure.

What is your situation with gmail? are you using two factor authentication and an app password for Thunderbird?

Do you have the less secure apps setting turned off? https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps?pli=1 It should be turned on unless you are using oAuth as an authentication method in Thunderbird.

Thanks Matt, that seems to have cured the problem.

Allow less secure apps: ON but still get refusal to accept email account/password. Combo work perfect at Gmail post office.
