A few weeks ago, perhaps when Firefox updated itself to version 64 I have started to experience a lot of crashed tabs and black videos. The video is playing because I can hear the sound, but the picture area is completely black. I have temporarily solved this by turning Hardware Acceleration to OFF.

My system isn't particularly exotic. It is an AMD Ryzen system running a Galax GTX 1050 graphics card. I tried to resolve the issue by updating to the latest Geforce drivers 417.71 but that didn't fix it.

Unchecking both "Use recommended performance settings" and "Use hardware acceleration when available" has solved the problem. I have used the computer for a full day without any tab crashes or black videos.

I strongly suspect there is an issue with version 64 that started this problem.

Since you've already updated your graphics drivers, I'd recommend making sure you are running the latest Windows updates. If you still experience issues, it could help to do a clean reinstall of your graphics drivers. Sometimes the drivers get damaged with software updates (for example, Windows update).

If you are running WindowBlinds on your computer, there is a known issue with that software causing Firefox to crash. The Firefox developers are working on fixing that, so you may need to disable that program until a patch is released.
