I get a "Run as" window when installing Firefox, prompting for a user name and password. This seems to occur after disabling Windows Defender or OneDrive via Group Policy Editor. Running the installer as administrator does not give me this windows.

I have tried other installers, such as Handbrake, that require administrative privileges, indicated by the UAC Yes/No prompt when running the installer. This gives me no such problems.

Did you get the full installer from Mozilla.org ? Any user should be able to install the browser without administrator privileges.

Ahh, I see. This is an Enterprise install. Have you tried entering your admin data?

After, are normal users able to run the browser?

Thank you replying.

I obtained the installer from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/

Yes, it is Windows 1903 Enterprise en-gb, but for my own personal use only. I only choose to use Enterprise for complete control of Windows.

There is only one user on the machine, which is is a virtual machine running from VirtualBox. The user name is VM, for testing purposes. Doing installs on a VM allows me to test for potential issues such as this one.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.

You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.

Make sure all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder.
