Since upgrading to Thunderbird 102.0.3 today, spellcheck isn't working properly.

I have tried the usual close and re-open, reboot, and deleting language and dictionary add-ons and re-installing them.

Inline errors are highlighted; spellcheck on send works, but highlighting text and using F7 (or CTRL + SHIFT + P), throws up a briefly visible (but blank) spellcheck window, but does nothing.

Help, please - I have never not been able to solve a Thunderbird problem myself before this, and so am somewhat frustrated!

Regards

Rob

I think it's just a bug, as selecting the option from menu works fine. F7 is for caret browsing. Spellcheck itself seems to be working ok.

Thank you, but how can I spellcheck (before sending) if F7 doesn't work?

If I compose a message and type rubbish, CTRL&A, then it doesn't matter whether I click the Spelling button, use CTRL + SHIFT +P, or F7, I just get a blank window/pop-up, which appears only briefly.

Well, there is spell check while typing, and there is the menu option until the bug is fixed. Yes, there is a bug, but fortunately, there is an easy workaround.

Thank you.

So there is a bug! And while there is a workaround, it is a lot slower than CTRL&A and then F7 which is what I have done for years. I manage the Admin for our younger daughter's business, so I handle a LOT of emails, let alone my own.

I agree that spellcheck does actually work. The bug is quite odd though. If I highlight MOST of the text, and click the 'Spelling' button, that works (though F7 and CTRL + ALT + P still fail); when I send, spellcheck checks the whole message now that I have enabled that option.

Good point. I rechecked and it is working. I tried this five times yesterday and it was not working. Pressing cntl + shift + p brought up a blank window that disappeared, same as the original poster. And F7 didn't work. Now they both do. So, there may be a bug, but I am not sure now how to replicate it. So, NO BUG. At least not yet.

Somehow it seems to be the last character in the data to be checked. So if I CTRL&A and F7 it doesn't work, but if I add an extra space at the end of the text (or anything I think), and then highlight everything EXCEPT that last character, then even F7 works.

Incidentally, have I somehow got myself onto some Beta-test version of Thunderbird here? Or is 102.0.3 the latest release?

Yes Rob185, I have this issue too and I agree it seems to depend on the last character selected to be spell checked. If you want the whole message string to be checked 9ie don't select any text, just hit f7 or select from the menu), it seems ok. But if you select a piece of text sometimes it works and sometimes not. If the last character of the selected text is a space, it never works. I have tried to experiment by varying the text selected but I can't produce consistent results: sometimes it seems to work then I select the same text again (I think) and it doesn't work.

Definitely a bug, I never had this problem up to a couple of weeks ago. I tried to report by logging on to Bugzilla but does that require different log-on credentials to this forum?

I believe it does require a separate login.
