For no apparent reason my 3.6.11 version of FF started to give an error message that XUL Runner 1.9.2.11 was not compatible with minVersion >=1.9.2.10 maxVersion <=1.9.2.10. I saw a support article relating ot a similar problem with an earlier release that suggested deleting Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and reinstalling. I did this but found that the install version is 3.6.12. However, on doing that I now get a similar error message, except is says minVersion>=1.9.2.12

I have tried running the Safe Mode version, but I get the same error message.

I don't know if this is a common problem, but the past few days I have had nothing but problems with Firefox (see my other postings!!)

This can happen after a failed update that partially changed your Firefox install directory.

Try a clean reinstall:

  1. Download the Firefox installer from Mozilla.com and save it to your desktop or other location.
  2. Close Firefox (File > Exit). Make sure that Firefox is closed completely.
  3. Uninstall Firefox. See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/uninstalling+Firefox
    • Windows users, be sure the box to delete your personal settings and information is un-checked during the uninstall procedure.
      • Your personal settings, including bookmarks and history, will not be lost if that box is un-checked.
  4. Delete the Firefox installation directory before installing the fresh copy of Firefox (On Windows, this is typically the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder that contains "firefox.exe" and other Firefox program files and folders).
    • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
  5. Reinstall Firefox by running the installer you downloaded previously.
  6. See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall

NOTE: Leaving the Plugins area blank when asking a question, will automatically list your installed Plugins under "More system details..." to the right of your original question post. You can check for installed Plugins by clicking Tools > Add-ons > Plugins.

Thanks for the advice, but no luck so far. I had already tried reinstalling after deleting the Firefox Program folder and got a similar result. This time I uninstalled through the control panel, but the result was the same, as soon as I tried to launch FF I got the error message.

Any further thoughts most welcome. It's an education using other browsers, but I would like to get back to using FF!

OK, I have Windows Vista, but when I go to UNINSTALL Firefox I have no option to UNCHECK a DELETE PERSONAL SETTINGS box. What do I do now?

I figured it out. When you said UNINSTALL FIREFOX, you were not talking about using WINDOWS ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to UNINSTALL. You were taking about the FIREOX UNINSTALLER, which I happend to stumble onto when I went to delete the directory in C:\PROGRAM FILES\MOZILLA FIREFOX and I saw C:\PROGRAM FILES\MOZILLA FIREFOX\UNINSTALL\helper.exe. When I clicked on helper.exe there is a box to leave unchecked so that personal settings and bookmarks are not removed. After I ran that UNINSTALL, I downloaded the version 3.6.12 and installed, and I am now running FIREFOX again with no ERRORS.
