Just updated to FF8. I am disappointed that the the bug that causes Save As to remember where the last file was saved from individual sites instead of just where the last file was saved to has not been fixed. Why is this? How hard can it be to fix it?

For example, suppose I save an image from Motifake to Folder A and an image from ihasahotdog to Folder C. Then I go back to Motifake and save an image. Instead of Folder C, Save As opens to Folder A instead of Folder C. I direct Save As to save the image to Folder A. The I go back to ihasahotdog, save an image and instead of Folder A, Save As opens to Folder C.

Also, this bug happens with all filetypes, not just images.

So Firefox is now supposed to be remembering the last download save folder based on the domain in the URL instead of using the last folder saved to? Or is it not supposed to doing that and it's a bug that will (hopefully sooner than later) be fixed?

It was an added feature that annoyed a lot of users and the lack of preference to turn it on/off is now considered a bug, and it's being worked on.

I was starting to suspect it was intentionally added when it wasn't fixed with the latest FeuerFuchs. Great, glad to hear that something's being done!

I have concerns about this issue from a security/privacy perspective. If Firefox "remembers" which folder I save pages or images to from a specific site, this list of folders is being stored either in a temp file or registry key. Once the fix to allow disabling of this mode is implemented, there needs to be a way to erase any and all log entries containing this information (or prevent them from being created in the first place.)

Firefox 11 will have a workaround by providing a pref to disable this.

I agree with firefoxjunkie11

FF11? But we're only at FF8 now. How long will we have to wait for FF11?

EDIT Thinking about how disabling it will be a future option, I have to ask. Considering how many hate it, why would anyone want it to be enabled?

Who would want this feature enabled?

Only the myopic programmers of Firefox, who obviously never browse for images on Flicker or other places. They're too busy making a wreck of their browser.

I want the feature, as I like looking at items and saving them to a separate hard drive. I don't want everything in one folder, and even pictures I separate according to what it is. Having it disabled makes it to where I have to be -very- careful (aka slow) in saving an image or video.
