That isn't possible out of the box, but you should look at some of the amazing add-ons available for Firefox. I prefer one called New Tab King, but there are lots of great options.

For details, just look at the Find and install add-ons to add features to Firefox Knowledge Base article.

When you open a new tab its always a blank page by default. To change that use this add-on: NewTabURL add-on
