- Enter “about:config” in url bar. This will open settings page
- Type “Keyword.url” in the search box. Right click it & reset it.
- Type “browser.search.defaultengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it.
- Type “browser.search.selectedengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it.
- Search for ‘browser.newtab.url’. Right-click and reset. This will make sure that the search page won’t launch on each new tab.
IF The settings revert or do not help, scan with Anti-malware programs like adwcleaner. WhiteSmoke is known to be distributed not only with shareware, but with trojans as well WhiteSmoke is known to be distributed not only with shareware, but with trojans as well,
like TDSS Rootkit. Although it is not common nowdays, it happened in the past,.
This Whitesmoke crap downloaded with what was supposed to be a flash update. I suspect it is all malware. I uninstalled all the programs in control panel but the add ons are still showing up in FFox. UGH.
How did you get rid of the conduit tool bar. I was told I needed an upgraded version of adobe flashplayer, so I was careful not to check any boxes for any stay software they like to stick you with. There was none for me to unclick, so it installed. Upon restarting I got conduit with all the crap that comes with it. I tried to send an email to their customer service only to get an error 505 server every time. I'm sure that is planned. I uninstalled it from the control panel, but that didn't seem to do a dent. It's there and I can't find a way to remove it. I am running Win8....HELP!
I finally had to roll back WIndows to a reset point and that did the trick. Conduit is a noxious malware distributor.
