When receiving a 408 Request Timeout from the server, Firefox attempts to retry the request unexpectedly. Server has a ~30 second timeout period so every ~30 seconds or so, a 408 is received from Firefox and Firefox retries the request. This can go on for minutes.

hello, if you can reproduce the issue with a new profile, then i'd recommend filing a bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org.
