My bookmarks and passwords are lost. Is there a way to retrieve them?

My HDD died suddenly, and I was forced to install OS on a new drive. After installing firefox and signing in into sync, I discovered that none of the bookmarks nor the passwords are there anymore. I really need them! is there any way to retrieve them?

If had synced your data with firefox sync,you can recover them

Sync was working for more than an year, but I can't find anything. Is there anywhere I have to look/click or it have to be an automatic recover after signing in? If it is automatic, than it just doesn't work for some reason.
