thunderbird keeps asking for passwords
I have recently downloaded Thunderbird for the first time. I am not terribly impressed as i am experiencing the same problem reprinted below: Thunderbird constantly asking for password Over the last few weeks (or so it seems) TBird has been asking me for my password-when I type it in it just asks me again, as if not recognising the password (although I *know* it is correct). If I click "cancel" it seems to allow my mail to send/receive but it's most infuriating that I keep being asked to enter password. I do have my passwords saved in the Saved Passwords under Tools-Options. I don't understand what the issue is. Has anyone else experienced this and what is the resolutio

There was a mention from another user that a password with specific characters did not work.
Can you try changing your password (to something plain? A-Z, 0-9) and then try again?
Then change your password back.
Just ran into this problem on my wife's computer. Haven't found a solution. Is there any sign that the password for your email account has been compromised? The reason I ask is I saw these exact same symptoms from a rootkit-trojan that compromised Outlook on my computer.
The trojan worked like this:
- It throws up a dummy dialog box asking for the password for my email account.
- I enter the password and the trojan immediately forwards my username and password to a jerk in Europe.
- Jerk in Europe logs in to my email account.
Lucky for me, I had an outlook.com account and MS noticed the odd IP address and asked an additional challenge question. The jerk did not get in. I changed my username and password after I realized what was going on. Norton AV scans found nothing. A rootkit scan found a registry entry but couldn't say whether it was my trojan. I ended up rebuilding the disk on my computer.
Since no one on this forum has found an explanation for the password request (even though Thunderbird clearly has the correct password), I would not dismiss a virus/trojan as the cause.

Is your Thunderbird outdated? If you updated, you will have to log in each time the certificate expires. Please check that the window is one coming from inside Thunderbird. If it is, then it is ok to proceed.
