The cat has turned on a Mac accessibility feature called VoiceOver.
A few options:
- Let the cat sit on the keyboard again, it may turn it off :)
- Use the keyboard shortcut Command+F5, it turns this feature on/off.
- In the Apple menu select System Preferences, then click Universal Access. Select the Seeing tab and you should see a setting to turn off VoiceOver.

OMG!!! My cat did the same thing!! It happened a week ago and I had to mute my computer until I found this post. Our cats must be related!!
