All other web pages work, and hotmail works on IE. This has been going on a week now. If I try to get to hotmail through msn.com I get this message Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.msn.com. The OCSP response contains out-of-date information. (Error code: sec_error_ocsp_old_response)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I can get to my mailbox directly but it's not looking right, just some blocks of color and garbled mess. IE is fine, but I'd rather use Firefox for everything. OH, my other computers with firefox are also fine. Have run virus scan, no virus. Have cleared Firefox cache and lost all my passwords etc very irritating. But it didn't help. I don't think it's the Hotmail application since it runs just fine on the same computer with IE. Any ideas? Thanks.

hello ElizabethA, please make sure that your system is set to the right date, time & timezone! http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/set-clock

I had already done that, also don't think it would work in IE if it weren't pretty much a firefox issue.

ocsp is an advanced security mechanism that isn't implemented in IE to my knowledge. please double-check: time.is

I have triple checked that now. I even used your link this time, it must be some other conflict.

Does the problem in the outlook inbox look similar to the screenshot posted in this question? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1046452

YES!!! I am so happy you have seen it before. Mine is dark red, otherwise just like that one.

So why is it like that?

does the web-address of your inbox start with "snt149.mail.live.com" as well? if so it might be a misconfiguration on the microsoft servers - so please also report it to their support channels...

one other thing to try would be to disable ocsp in firefox: go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > certificates and disable the "query ocsp responders..." setting.

No to the web address question but disabling the query ocsp seems to have worked. I have been using it for an hour or so without incident, so not absolutely sure yet but it's looking good. Thank you, I didn't want to have to stay in internet explorer land.

If you use a bookmark to open a specific page on the server to access the mail page then try to navigate to that page starting with the main page or the sign in page of the website in case this bookmark is currently broken.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
