In the info that came when you posted there was a crash report and it is showing EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT, this is usually associated to Video Card Drivers.

See if you can find updates for your IYour Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 as they are A VERY old : Driver Date: 3-19-2012 You can Google Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 and find the download page https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81499/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000

Can also try : https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html it should find your Video Card and Your Sound Card and show you drivers for them.

I see a few errors in the drivers so this is possibly a reason your having issues with Firefox 57. Please stay up to date on the drivers after as old & or corrupt drivers can cause a wide range of issues, some hard to identify as the video card being the issue.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi Pkshadow Thank you so much for your help.

I have upgraded the HD Graphics 4000 drivers as you suggested.

Also i tried to turn off hardware acceleration through options but it would not open. so i use the about:config to set these to true: "gfx.direct2d.disabled" "layers.acceleration.disabled" "media.windows-media-foundation.allow-d3d11-dxva" "webgl.disabled"

However its still the same. when i enter a url into the address bar and press enter nothing happens. Same as when i tried to open a new tab also nothing happens.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

thanks, one more thing that i have just noticed when looking at your system details - can you please test if the following steps can fix the performance issue you're seeing in firefox 57?: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named accessibility.force_disabled. double-click it, change its value to 1 and restart firefox once.

then please let us know how this goes?
