As of the last few weeks when Thunderbird asked me if I wanted to start condensing files I've had a lot of issues with Thunderbird crashing when deleting multiple emails and running rather slow when moving between folders.

The Unresponsive script message is below.

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: chrome://messenger/content/multimessageview.js:408"

Just to follow up I found this article yesterday and it fixed my issue. https://scottiestech.info/2013/07/05/quick-fix-thunderbird-hangs-when-deleting-any-message/

After repairing the folder, deleting the messages, and then compacting again I'm not getting any hangups.

Hope this helps someone.

Please start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Does problem go away? Please reply to let me know results.

Edited

I rebooted in safe mode and everything went smooth like butter and I didn't need to disable any addons. I also wasn't in safe mode - networking enabled.

So whats the issue then?

Unknown.

Sounds like all is well - be happy. :)

If all is not well, please explain more clearly.

Im still having the issue when Im not in safe mode. When I rebooted in safe mode it worked fine. When I went back to normal I was still having the issue.

Then I misunderstood you. If it is

  • good in WINDOWS safe mode
  • bad when not in WINDOWS safe mode

Then check items stated in #3 at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems

If it was thunderbird safe mode then check the items stated in #2

Please post your results

How do I "DELETE the Thunderbird PROGRAM directory (not data directory),"?

I can't seem to find this in my directory.

I've tried finding reference material but I can't seem to find how to delete the program data. I deleted via Program files x86 but I'm not sure that's the right place.

I am sure that is the ONLY place you could find it. And it is the correct location.

Well, that didn't fix the problem, unfortunately. I've been receiving the messages on my home computer about consolidating folders which caused this mess but I ignore it.

Too bad the author of that article didn't simply say right+click the Trash folder and pick Empty Trash.
