erratic behaviour in windows search

If i use the Windows 11 search (for "disk management windows 11"), windows opens a new empty firefox window (apart from my default homepage). I seem to have a problem with popups and links generally.

I have adblock/adblock plus and other add-ons, but I hvae disabled those and still get the same problem.

How do you get Windows 11 to send a search to Firefox instead of Edge?!

What about other external links, for example in a PDF in Acrobat or a document in Word, do those open successfully in Firefox, or do those also just open an empty window?
