sync is fatally flawed as it can destroy data

more options

Long time user of sync and now totally pissed because I have to discontinue it because I can no longer trust it. It was so useful.

Syncing between mac and windows desktops. On mac suddenly have duplicate folders appear on the bookmark toolbar. Delete the duplicate entries. Later discover that duplicates and original folders have been deleted. Problem compounds when switching to windows to find sync has very helpfully has deleted these folders there too. There was no way to disable syncing to prevent this. So that means when you do something stupid on one instance, you have no way to prevent that mistake from spreading to other computers. Nice one.

No sync-log found on mac to investigate why the folders where duplicated. so no way to file a bug.

All I can do now is disable sync on all computers. Be nice if there was some kind of roll back.

To roll back bookmarks on desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux), check out the Restore feature described in the following article:

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

As for what went wrong with Sync, I don't know. Sometimes duplicates happen, but removing the duplicate should not have affected the original. ??
