I have installed AVG for virus scanning. Yet, attached files from other users are scanned by Norton Internet security (which I have removed). How do you notify Firefox to use AVG?

Norton may not have been completely removed from your system, the built-in uninstaller is notorious for not removing everything. Norton has a number of removal tools for complete removal of their various programs.
