Firefox 4 appears to go from ~250 MB of memory usage to over 1 GB over the course of approximately 2 - 3 days on Mac OS X 10.6.7.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but wanted to mention it.

I'm hoping for a point release that addresses these memory leakage concerns soon.

I just had to restart everything because my new Firefox 4 was using over 2GB! I have 8GB all together and couldn't run anything. It's also doing lots of hanging and "stuttering" - little delays when scrolling, entering web based forms etc. Very frustrating! Might roll back.

Semi-Technical :

I am not on OS X (as of now), but perhaps this will give some helpful pointers:

  1. The leaks tool (man page)
This manual page is part of Xcode Tools version 4.0
    • Require Install of the Xcode Tools (say on page with link)
  2. [the Mac OS X leaks tool]

And:

 3. Memory Usage Performance Guidelines

(Hopefully someone can test, check and reply a how-to or other information from this.)
