I have solved my problem. Zone Alarm was upgraded a couple of days ago and I have been having the problem since then. After spending all afternoon reading other people's problems I eventually went into the Add-ons and the last one was for Zone Alarm Security Engine 1.5.350 I DISABLED it and the problem has gone.

Hope solving my own problem will help someone else! I'm not crying anymore now!
