Cannot reply to or forward an e-mail because the "message" gets garbled with continuous symbols intermixed with the letters of the mesage.
How do I correct this situation when it happens ? I can go days with no problem, but then I cannot reply to or forward any e-mails, regardless of using Rich text or Plain text.

If every other character looks like garbage, then it could be a problem converting between Unicode and ANSI/ASCII text (Unicode uses two bytes for each character while ANSI/ASCII uses one).
Is this problem in your webmail (e.g., Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo! mail, Gmail, Outlook Web Access), or in Thunderbird? The answer might be specific to your particular webmail provider or email client software.
