open “about:downloads” when clicking on “Show all downloads”?

more options

I know Firefox 20 can open all downloads in a tab with “about:downloads” via the address bar. Also it’s known when clicking on “Show all downloads” in downloads pop-up, the downloads portion of library is shown. Is there any way to open that “about:downloads” tab with “Show all downloads” link? I’ve seen this behavior in Private Window, but I want it for non-private too.

Chosen solution

There’s an add-on to open many Firefox chromeless windows in tabs: More In-Content UI+. With this add-on Library Downloads will be opened in a new tab.

Another great add-on which works beautifully on all platforms is Download Panel Tweaks. It includes many meaningful tweaks for download panel, including opening the “Show all downloads” in window/tab/Library, and separate settings for private browsing.

It works in normal mode also (non -private window).

You can create a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar and set the location to about:downloads

@iamjayakumars No, clicking on the link “Show all downloads” opens the Library, I want to open downloads in a tab. Have you changed any preferences?

@cor-el It’s a good suggestion, but not a real solution. Plus I don’t use Bookmarks bar, because I have a netbook so the room for content is precious for me. Do you know if it’s possible to put a bookmark on Navigation Toolbar?

I poked around in the source code and I can't figure out where the code branches for private vs. non-private windows. So I don't see a simple intervention with the existing link.

Regarding putting bookmarks on other toolbars, I vaguely recall hearing about an add-on to do that, but there are so many bookmark add-ons that I wasn't able to wade through them long enough to find it. Perhaps another volunteer can think of it.

Meanwhile, I did see an add-on that lets you assign keyboard shortcuts to bookmarks, so perhaps that could work as a workaround?

On the Github issues page, someone reported the need to show and hide the Bookmarks Toolbar at least once to make it work. https://github.com/jbalogh/bookmark-s.../1 If true, that's a hassle...

You can drag the "Bookmarks Toolbar item" on another toolbar and remove the existing default bookmarks.

@jscher2000, thank you for the workaround. This add-on works for me without any bugs; however I preferred to open downloads in a new tab. So it’s easy for me to press Ctrl+T+6.

@cor-rel, thank you too for your help; dragging Bookmarks Toolbar items is awesome.

Let me leave the question unsolved, because opening downloads in tab has been my old wish since I saw in Opera years ago!

@jscher2000, After some time I faced the bug you’ve mentioned, (the reason that I didn’t face it first, was that I’d moved Bookmarks Toolbar Items to Navigation Toolbar) but I found a workaround for that:

I installed another add-on, Vertical Toolbar, and moved the Bookmarks Toolbar Items into that. Since I never use the vertical toolbar, changed its options to “Never show”.

(I posted this workaround on the GitHub issue too.)
