I have had a problem that has corrupted IE10 and IE11 and they will no longer start. I tend to swap between IE and FF. I have an old set of bookmarks in FF but want to update it to those more recently used in IE. I have found them in a folder c:\users\stuart\favourites\(lots of subfolders), but if I import via FF using the "from a browser" option, it imports nothing. The folders I want are not html, they are folders containing url files.

Is there some way to delete my old set of bookmarks from FF and import this up to date set fro those folders?

Thanks

Maybe this extension is able to get access to the IE favorites.

Hmmm, I wonder whether Firefox won't import the Favourites folder because it already did it once or because you already have Bookmarks?

To test whether Firefox can import them at all, could you do a two-minute experiment?

Create a new Firefox profile

It will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash), but no themes, extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested, and to avoid data loss, not re-using any existing folder. Before deleting unneeded profiles, I suggest making a backup first in case something were to go wrong.

Now try to import your IE favorites. Does it work at all?

If that works, use the Export feature to create an HTML file consisting of the imported favorites. Save that in a convenient location such as your Documents folder. Then exit, use the profile manager to switch back to your normal profile, and Import that file you created. These articles describe the menus where you do that (although it sounds as though you already are familiar with them):

If Firefox won't pull IE favorites even into a new profile, it's a problem if you can't run IE to generate an HTML export. There might be a utility that can do it, but absent a reliable recommendation, I think your best bet is to repair Windows enough to run IE (but this forum isn't the best place for Windows/IE support...).

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Alas I can't get Profile Manager to run. I've run this command and even specified the full path, and all it does is re-open Firefox at my home page as normal. I've also tried a lower case "p" as well, same result.

If you do not get the Profile Manager, but a new window with the home page then that means that Firefox is already running.

You can check the Task Manager to make sure that all Firefox and plugin-container processes are ended.

Thanks, Cor-el, that fixed the Profile Manager problem. Now to the original problem....

Sadly no, it only gives me the same couple of empty folders when "importing from IE".

Thanks again, Cor-el. I clicked the first link and it said "Not available for Firefox 25" (I'm using 25.0.1). I tried the second link and the page gave a link which did install it. I've found that by displaying the bookmarks in the sidebar, I only get the Firefox ones, but clicking Favourites which now appears in the , I get the most recent IE ones. Excellent, thanks.
