There is no auto correct feature in Thunderbird itself, but there is an add-on that introduces this functionality. I don't have Thunderbird here in front of me to check this, but try Tools|Add-ons|Search and seek "autocorrect". There's an old add-on which has recently been resurrected and is called something like MMSAutoCorrect.
