Before I downgraded to FF40, I could hover over a link and the grey bar above the task bar area would show what the link was. It would also tell me what was currently downloading. Now, I can't tell what a link really is, don't know what's downloading, or how long it's taking. (There also used to be a thin green line at the top that showed progress but not what was going on.) I really want to know what links are, and how they are going.

This should help,

Download Status Bar {web link} If you are the kind of person who likes to have total control over every aspect of your downloads, "Download Status Bar" is the add-on you are looking for.

Sorry, forgot to say I'm on XP Pro (and happy to be there...).

I tried to post that that bar was what I'd had, but the name had been forgotten and I couldn't see it in AddOns (and still can't). Clicking the 'Solution given' button obviously cancelled my post. Thanks for reminding me. Funny thing is, after a day of the computer not being used, it's reappeared and works just like it used to.

No, it just lets others know a solution was found. That's all it does,

P.S. Glad to help.
