Hello, I am having a problem launching Thunderbird immediately after my computer starts. When I double click on Thunderbird, a process is created (usually around 5000k) but it does not open. After about 2 to 3 minutes, Thunderbird will open and works fine and the process size usually stabilizes at around 75,000k to 95,000k. I am not using any extensions or add-ons. Additionally, if I wait 2-3 minutes after my computer is booted to start Thunderbird, it will start fine and continue to start fine for the remainder of the time I am booted. I am running Windows 7 ultimate. One fix that seems to consistently work is to run the program in compatibility mode for Vista SP2, however, running in compatibility mode does change the look and some of the functionality of Thunderbird. I'm not sure why running in compatibility mode "fixes" the problem. I have noticed this same identical "hanging" behavior when I previously used SeaMonkey and when using Firefox. If any additional information is required, please let me know. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thank you!

Hi Wayne, Thank you for your reply. Yes, starting the system in safe mode allowed Thunderbird to start normally with no problems! This made me think that perhaps my issue was related to either an application or service that was starting with Windows. I disabled all services I did not need and removed applications from startup that were unnecessary. It appears things are working! If I have any future problems, I'll be sure to write in again. Thank you so much for your quick reply and suggestion!

Typically this is caused by antivirus programs. In such cases, it is necessary to set the AV to exclude touching the Thunderbird profile directory. SEe https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues
