I did what was suggested on @ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1011633 and the one option that worked was the safe mode option. The others did not work.

However, when I am not in Mozilla safe mode the videos cease working and I get the plugin message...but they are fine and I have no add ons blocking the site.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Have you, after testing the website in Safe Mode, tried to disable every add-on one by one in normal mode? That way you can find out which one causes the trouble.

Thanks for your response, it is appreciated.

I only had one add-on and that was an add blocker and that was Ad Guard Ad Blocker. I removed that completely. So, it didn't help by removing it.

I am thinking that the updates that I applied for Windows 7 may have stomped on something and locked Ad Guard into continual block, because when I removed it ads were still being blocked on sites I know have ads (the reason I installed Ad Guard in the first place),

So, if I remove Fire Fox and reinstall I am thinking that should solve the problem...but was hoping for a less radical solution.

Thanks for taking time to write.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via *"3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)

  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit
