On the majority of sites I visit Firefox seems to have no problems with the use of Flash Player - but just occasionally videos can't be played. Currently - (Sept 2016) - videos in The Daily Mirror remain blank...although the adverts play perfectly, of course. They were fine last week though. And I happened to visit Yahoo news today and found that videos wouldn't play there either. But videos on the BBC site work fine, as do those at TheJigsawPuzzles site, to mention but two others who use Flash Player. On the other hand they play fine in the Daily Mail - I guess because they use video.js instead.

In addition, all those videos play perfectly well using Chrome or Opera.

I've deleted and reinstalled Flash Player over and over again and done the same with my Firefox browser but all to no avail and I've made sure that the Add-ons "Always Activate" option is clicked - so what's the problem and why can't I get a blanket approval to use Flash Player?

Hi   !

I can see that your &nsp; 'Shockwave Flash'  is updated,   so,  no problem there.

Have you checked to see if   'Flash Player'  is updated as well:

Click on the magifying glass icon on the task bar,   type:   'Flash Player', and on the context menu that appears,   click on   'Updates'.
The latest version should be:   23.0.0.162

It's possible the pages that don't work are using the HTML5 player.

Yep - all checked and ok.

Your Flash Version 23.0.0.162 Your browser name Firefox (NPAPI) Your Operating System (OS) Windows (Windows 7)

I did wonder if it's the Windows 7 I use as opposed to 10 that's the problem. Hope not - I still don't like 10.

Hello Fred - and Happy as well, Thanks for your replies. (No signs of any unresponsive plugin warning - except on other pages when the occasional scrip freezes.)

According to the HTML5 Video Player page you suggested Fred, they say: "Many browsers support both the video element in HTML5 and either the H.264 video codec or the WebM format. These include:

   Google Chrome
   Microsoft Internet Explorer
   Firefox
   Opera
   Apple Safari"

Which therefore says that I should be able view all videos....and I'm not technical enough to know where to look for more solutions.

A easy way to check to see if your system fully supports HTML5 as you should have all blue checkmarks if so. https://www.youtube.com/html5

Shockwave Flash is the old name for the Flash Player. The is a Shockwave (for director) Player Plugin that is little used now days compared to Flash and is not needed for Flash Player to run.

No - everything up to date and installed.

Just one optional security update listed today and I'm installing it now. Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3177467) Installation date: ‎29/‎09/‎2016 18:54 Installation status: Successful Update type: Optional

Doubt that'll have any effect though.

And hi James, All ticks are blue as required....nothing unticked or blank.
