Thunderbird is not working with charter.net
Thunderbird was sending and receiving emails with Charter.net but not stopping working with error 'timed out'. I have checked and rechecked the entered info and also called Charter and they have been verified as correct. Thanks!......Candy

Well, I again rechecked everything, read forums for two hours, deleted my password and now it will not ask for a password. Would appreciate more help. Thanks!.........Candy
Since Spectrum has taken over Charter you may need to make some changes. Are you using your entire email address for a username? Read Spectrum setting here. http://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/email-settings/
I have read and reread the link that you send and checked my entries in Thunderbird so many times that my head is hurting! Right now I having the problem of not getting a sign in box after deleting my password. I've read about going to about.config to change something but can't figure that out. More help please. - Does Thunderbird work in TB Safe mode (see Thunderbird Safe Mode)?

Thunderbird is not working in Safe Mode. Use AVG Anit-virus Free 16.151.8013 My other account, ludemans@centurytel. net worked fine. When I set up new account candylud@charter.net it worked for a a day. The error on my sending email says: Timed out. Thanks!..........Candy

The correct settings for Charter are not easy to extract from their website, but another user had this problem and finally arrived at these working settings:
incoming IMAP server: imap.charter.net or mobile.charter.net port: 143 or 993 Connection security: none or SSL/TLS Authentication: Password transmitted insecurely or normal password User name: your email address
outgoing SMTP server: smtp.charter.net or mobile.charter.net port: 25 or 587 Connection security: none or SSL/TLS Authentication: Password transmitted insecurely or normal password User name: your email address

I suggest you remove the current Charter POP account and add it to TB as an IMAP account.
Don't understand your instructions as my charter account is set as an IMAP and one for mobile. Something I'm missing? Thanks.......Candy
Your account 2 is set up as a POP account but with IMAP settings, and account 3 is IMAP but the connection security is SSL/TLS when it should be None. Both accounts are set to send on charter.net when it should be smtp.charter.net or mobile.charter.net.
When you add an account to TB, choose manual config. to enter the required settings.
