can't drag contacts to mailing list

I set up my full list of contacts then I created a new mailing list for group mailing then I opened my main list and held control and clicked on the addresses that I wanted to save then I left clicked on one of the highlighted ones and dragged it over to my new list nothing over and over

When you hover over the new 'Mailing List' name shown in the left pane, the mouse pointer icon should change from eg: black circle with diagonal line to a small rectangle. Release mouse only when the icon changes, otherwise you are not going to copy anything over. confirm you see the icon change.
