Is it normal that after a recent Firefox update I had to sign in and reenter passwords to all my previously logged-in websites?

Just want to make sure my laptop wasn't hacked in some way: after an automatic Firefox update a few weeks ago (Nov. 2017) I've had to reenter all passwords and usernames for previously signed-in to websites. This has never happened with any of the other Firefox updates. Don't think it was individual cookies expiring because they all happened at once and this has never happened before. Thanks!

Usually this doesn't happen no. Did you clear cache and cookies, or perform a Firefox Refresh?

No, I did not knowingly clear anything or do a refresh. What is a refresh? At one point there were updates that did not seem to be going through so I used ALT-DELETE figuring the worst that would happen would be that it would just abort the update. Could this have caused a refresh? I'm not exactly sure not if this is when the weirdness started, but it might have been. Uh oh?

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there?


In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.
