Since the upgrade to V 57, some parts of at least one web site is 'broken'. The site is 'tsn.ca'.

The page loads but parts of the main menu bar no longer work. For example, there is a choice on the left of the bar (three horizontal lines and the word 'sports'). That is supposed to give a drop down menu to access other sections of the site. However, Firefox no longer recognizes it as a link. Similar, if you click on one of the scores at the top of the page, none of the menu choices work.

The site worked perfectly with version 56. It also works fine under Safari and Chrome.

I had no problem with the site.

Something may be blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

In Firefox 54 and below:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

In Firefox 55 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.

  4. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  5. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

The site works properly for me on an empty profile but fails with my normal profile. Can you try running it using an empty profile. Check out Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Ghostery, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of these are much bigger changes than I really want to undertake. However, I did try the 'safe' mode option. That fixed the problem. It also fixed an issue with another web site (https://www.microsofthup.com/hupca/home.aspx?culture=en-CA) that refused to display any formatting.

I then went back to regular mode, disabled all of my add-ons and re-started Firefox. however, the problem remained. So, it doesn't appear to relate to add-ons. I also disabled hardware acceleration and that didn't fix it. And, I tired re-started the page by bypassing the cache on the 'bad' web page but this didn't fix things.

So, safe mode must be doing something more than just disabling add-ons (as shown by the Firefox add-on listing page).

And, I did create a new, blank, profile. The web sites ran correctly under that new profile.

And, a couple further updates:

  1. I created a new profile. That correctly displayed the two problem web pages.
  2. I then added back (into the new profile) the four add-ons that I use. They all installed and work correctly. However, the web pages continue to display correctly.
  3. Finally, I went back to my original profile and removed all of the 'legacy' extensions. The web pages still do not display correctly.

That was good work.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

What theme are you using?

I'm using the default theme. But, for the past three years, I was using 'Classic Restorer' because I preferred the older layout and look. That is no longer functional under version 57 and was disabled when I up-graded.
