How do I get rid of the delete X on the left edge of each email address in the latest TBird?

The latest TBird has a box to the left of the email address. It has a down arrow for To: CC: and BCC:. As you mouse over the down arrow, it moves to the right and a delete X appears in its place. THIS FEATURE SUCKS. I have deleted emails as I touch the moving down arrow. Can I get rid of this piece of X excrement?
