Why does Firefox change my home page and search option every time it does an update or I try to restore?

Home page, new pages or tabs work fine until a software update is loaded. Then my home page and the search engine is changed to Bing. This has been happening on upgrades for several months, and I have not been able to get a satisfactory answer from any search effort or support screen.

I have found article after article which tell me how to set my defaults, and I think I know how to do that, but nothing about how to solve my problem on updates, and why it keeps changing, even if that is what the article title says.

I'm to the point that if I can't get this resolved, I will switch my browser, which would be a shame since I have always liked Mozilla browsers, Netscape and Firefox.

Hmm. My Prefs hold on browser Updates. A mystery to me. Perhaps someone else may have an idea.

Maybe a search on BugZilla.MoZilla.Org might have something there.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
