Many websites keep telling me my browser version is outdated and won't run properly, which they often don't. But the play store doesn't show an update.

From the information you have provided, I cannot why you would have this problem.
Do you have an example of a website where this is happening?
This one just today, which is what triggered the question. I can't recall any others off the top of my head.

Thank you for that screenshot - really useful.
I have tried that page myself in the new update to Firefox for Android that we are rolling out and the page loads fine. You may have to wait a short while, but that update will allow you to open that page on your Android device.
