Can't set Firefox 64 as the default program for using or viewing files. had to reinstall Firefox 32 to continue using firefox as a default program but that causes the problem of now it has to open in a new window.

for some reason Firefox 32 will show up as an option but Firefox 64 will not register, or even allow me to set it as a default program. even if I go to the folder, and click on the program, it refuses to allow me the option.

This is a Windows Issue. Take a look here: https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1166218

The registry entries are in these two locations:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\https

both of those are referring to setting firefox as the default browser, that is not my problem, I want to use Firefox64 as the default for opening files like Gifs, that are not usable in windows anymore, and must be opened in a browser or other program.
