Hello! I use Thunderbird on Windows 10 for my emails. I am trying to connect via POP3 connection to Godaddy's Office 365 server where the email is set up. When I put in the server settings Godaddy has given me https://au.godaddy.com/help/find-my-microsoft-365-imap-or-pop-settings-9012, Thunderbird gives a message that it senses that the server is there. But when I select done, I get an error message "Config could not be verified. Likely that server admin has disabled selected configuration for your account."

Thunderbird doesn't have the encryption method of SSL, so I tried all the other encryption methods. I got the same error message.

I am certain that the password is correct because I have logged in directly from the browser with no trouble. I copy and paste the password so there is no chance for typos.

Thank you for your help!! - T.S.BH

Jut a little background. SSL was obsoleted sometime in 2015. Just a clue your dealing with some problematical stuff.

TLS has basically replaced SSL and versions 1.0,1.1 have been obsoleted in Thunderbird 78. Hence the authentication method SSL/TLS. It is a misnomer, it really means TLS V1.2 and up. But when translating from Microsoft speak to English SSL and TLS are synonymous.

Then there is STARTTLS which is a somewhat more secure TLS but only if the server supports it. My experiences with godaddy have not been good ones where encryption and certificates are concerned. But lets see what can be learned.

What settings did the OWA page offer you? HAve you created application passwords in office365, or selected the authentication method oAuth. This should be available in Thunderbird 78 and is apparently Microsoft preferred method of connection.

Hi Matt, Thanks for helping. I sign in with a password. Another volunteer set it up and owns it, but I am the only user. We are volunteers for National Wildlife Federation. I put the password in my config. I didn't see any settings on the OWA page - I assume that acronym is the Office 365 server, correct? Let me know if there's anything I should ask him about that would help. I set up the settings in Thunderbird's Account Settings, New Account, then used all the settings from the link above. When that didn't work, I even tried IMAP, which I don't want, but it didn't work either with the port the link said to use. Auto-detect tried lots of different things, but all gave that same error message. I greatly appreciate your help. It's sad because it was a very expensive account. You'd think it would be straightforward and work. Thank you very much for your questions. Did I answer them all? Thanks again!! - ToSt

Hi Matt,

I took the last paragraph and sent it to my fellow volunteer. I will let you know his answers.

Your help is greatly appreciated! - ToSt

He said he used the password as the authentication. Thanks!

I am having problems accessing my e-mail on GoDaddy via Thunderbird since GoDaddy recently converted my account to "Microsoft Office 365". Three days ago GoDaddy told me it was a known problem and would take up to 24 hours to get it fixed. Two days ago they told me it would take up to 2 days after the conversion. I'm now at day #3 and still have the problem.

The problem is that, while I can still send & receive e-mails, none of my folders are accessible via Thunderbird. (The folders are still accessible via Apple's e-mail on my iPad & iPhone.)

I'll continue to work with GoDaddy, but meanwhile - - - -

Has anyone else had -- and solved -- this problem??

Thanks!!

Hi Rich48,

I still have the same problem and haven't been able to solve it yet. Would you please keep me in the loop about what GoDaddy says. Thanks for contacting them!

I appreciate your help.

Best wishes, ToSt

This morning I stumbled into what seems to be the answer. Apparently, you have to "subscribe" to the folders you want to see in Thunderbird. Now that I've done this, all of the folders have re-appeared (plus a few more new ones).

The instructions to "subscribe" are at the link below.

https://www.liquidweb.com/kb/how-to-subscribe-to-imap-folders-in-thunderbird/

I've also passed this info along to the Thunderbird tech support, hoping they'll save future Thunderbird users all this trouble.

I hope this really does help others!!

Hi Rich48,

I'm on an IBM with Windows 10. You've gotten a lot farther than I could. I couldn't get the folders or anything to come down. Are you on a Mac?

I was going for a POP connection because GoDaddy had a space limit for keeping things up there. Did you notice that?

I don't know why I wasn't notified of your response. This looks promising!

Thank you, ToSt
